What does Image2Vector do?

It traces PNG, JPG, WebP and GIF images into SVG files made of vector paths. You choose Color or Black & White, one of four presets (Logo, Icon, Photo, Sketch) and, if you like, the Filter Speckle, Corner Threshold and Path Precision settings, then preview the result and download it.

How does the conversion work?

The converter groups neighbouring pixels of similar colour into regions, fits straight lines and curves around each region's outline, and writes them out as SVG <path> elements. The result is real vector geometry: no bitmap is embedded in the file.

Two consequences are worth knowing. Transparent areas are flattened onto white before tracing, so a Color-mode SVG includes a white background shape. And photos, which contain thousands of small colour regions, come out posterized rather than photographic. Flat graphics such as logos, icons, clip art and line art trace best. How to fix a traced SVG shows what each setting does, measured on test images.
